Sherford

Sherford is a new housing development being built that will become home to some 12,000 new residents. It is the product of over two decades of planning, public consultation, and expertise of award-winning architects, consultants, craftsmen, ecologists, surveyors, engineers and designers.

Sherford will combine traditional design with modern living and feature 5,500 homes alongside shops, businesses, leisure facilities, schools, parks and woodland.

The Sherford Consortium is a partnership of housebuilding companies, Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Taylor Wimpey. The development will take an estimated 15-20 years to complete.

Three Parish Councillors and Clerk attend a Sherford Liaison meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss progress and any issues associated with the project.

Sherford Community Initial Survey - 2019

The first Sherford Community Survey, undertaken by South Hams District Council, in partnership with the joint councils and organisations involved in Sherford was undertaken in spring of 2019. https://www.engagement.southhams.gov.uk/sherford-community-survey

The aims of the survey were to:

  • Create a demographic profile of the new community
  • Help understand the needs of the community now and in the future
  • Understand the residents' opinion of Sherford
  • Understand the residents' concerns and issues about living in Sherford.

Of the 230 homes occupied at the time of the survey approximately 50% of residents responded telling us about their households and about life in the new town.
